Icy flatiron

View On Black - www.hetstrijkijzer.nl/

The special thing about flatiron (strijkijzer) is that this building hardly reflects anything, but so much more absorbs whichi gives it great editing opportunity. In this photo I am intreaged by the red cable hanging next to the elevator. Does anyone know what this is for? See large (view on black) to see the cable. . !

Source of inspiration

The name “Het Strijkijzer” did not appear out of the blue.

Architect Paul Bontenbal’s design was inspired by the Flatiron Building in New York. With Het Strijkijzer he hopes to recapture the intimacy of Rijswijkseplein of the past……

Highest residential tower block

On this incredibly small plot - just 30 by 35 metres - a 130 metre-high residential tower block, the highest in The Hague, Het Strijkijzer stands.

Het Strijkijzer has 351 housing units: three hundred studios for young people and 51 luxury rental apartments. The building has a number of sun lounges, two separate entrances and a total of five lifts. But there is more. It also has a trendy Grand Café, a launderette and workspaces. And a special panorama terrace on the 41st floor, accessed by an impressive glass lift.
