I AM THE (president of the) NRA
I AM THE NRA … A ‘college yearbook’ for American gun-lovers who never went to college
The National Rifle Association (NRA) was originally founded to teach basic marksmanship skills to the citizenry, so that if known enemies of the people — like King George or Barack Obama — tried to ‘start something,’ a well-regulated militia could be formed of citizens who could actually stand their ground against enemy forces. That’s not how things worked out; today the membership consists of mentally unbalanced citizens who simply like guns. (They claim to own guns for self-defense, but the average member needs 6 or more guns to provide that self-defense.) They are militantly conservative, Christian, and rural. Many are illiterate. This portfolio is intended to paint a picture of the NRA — since a picture is worth a thousand words and I wanted NRA members, including our president, to be able to enjoy it.
There are 50 photos in the portfolio, and I do not mean to suggest that any one of them represents 2% of NRA members — only that each of them represents a specific and identifiable subset of NRA members — abused children, white supremacists, latent homosexuals, undereducated rednecks, nerds, paranoid schizophrenics, mentally challenged, etc. The percentage of women (20 photos; 40%) does match the percentage of female NRA members.
Disclaimers:
1.This photographic portfolio is intended purely as parody.
2.I have edited every photo in this portfolio, but the original photos may have been copyrighted. If so, I am using them under the Fair Use exception of copyright law for the purpose of criticism. You may not reuse them for any commercial purpose.
3.I did not commission any of these photographs. Based on the usernames of the persons who posted the photographs, and the sites where I found them, I have assumed that the photographs were taken with the approval of the subjects pictured.
4.I do not know the subject(s) and I have no proof that any belong to the National Rifle Association. Based on the usernames of the persons who posted the photographs, and the sites where I found them, there’s a very good chance that every subject is a proud member of the National Rifle Association.
5.Searching for “men who love guns” will bring up many photographs of men with firearms engaged in sex acts with women, other men, animals, plants or latex 'toys'. I have not included those photos, having assumed that in most of those cases the guns, though real, were props that did not belong to the subjects in the photographs. It does seem, however, that men who love guns don’t much love wearing shirts.
6.I have not included photographs of uniformed men/women whose jobs require carrying a gun – police, security guard, soldier — but it has been well-documented that those occupations attract a certain type of person simply because they require carrying guns.
