Cena a La Cabrera

In the chic neighborhood of Palermo Viejo, we enjoyed a sumptuous meal @ La Cabrera, the best parilla (grille/steakhouse) in BA. This picture doesn't do justice to what my wife deemed as, "one of the best meals ever!"

It was our 1st day in B A. We'd already feasted at the highly acclaimed Las Lilas in Puerto Madero for lunch so we were looking for something lighter for dinner. Enticed by our guidebook, we went looking for a restaurant specializing in empanadas, the bitesize, spanish calzones. To our chagrin, it was closed for renovations, so we ventured up a few blocks to find a line out the door to La Cabrera. Lucky us!

My wife ordered a sirloin and I, the modestly sounding porkchop. Her 20 oz sirloin (left) and my trio of bone-in porkchops (right) came out steaming on a butcher's block w/ no less than 21 ramikins of sidedishes. Most memorable were the stewed cherry tomatos --sweet and tangy and simple. Needless to say, the meat was grilled to perfection, juicy on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside. We just couldn't figure out how Argentines eat like this everyday and still look so good.

The waitstaff even invited us to sign a plate to hang on the wall. Must've been all the 'oohing and aahhing' we murmurred throughout the meal. Look for the one commemorating the year of the pig (lunar calendar) in broken spanish.

Now that's the way to end the 1st day to your vacation...
