Greenshank - Tringa nebularia (click for info)

The Common Greenshank - Tringa nebularia - is a large wader of the sandpiper (Tringa) family which feeds in shallow waters, often chasing small invertebrates and fish which it hunts by sight. Breeding across Europe and Asia, from northern Scotland and Scandinavia, east through central Asia, Russia and eastern Siberia, as a migratory species, it moves south to spend the winter in western Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa, through the Middle East and Arabian Peninsula to Southeast Asia, and even as far south as Australia. Some non-breeding individuals may remain in their wintering grounds year-round. It breeds on dry ground near marshy areas, laying about four eggs in a ground scrape. This pair were seen feeding on Mobor Beach, Goa, India.
