Red-Whiskered Bulbul - Pycnonotus jocosus
Originating in Eastern India, the Red-Whiskered Bulbul - Pycnonotus jocosus - is a very distinct bird with its red whiskers, black pointed crest and red under tail feathers. A friendly bird, it is very familiar to people living in Tropical Asia where it is most prominent but it has also been introduced in Australia (New South Wales), Los Angeles, Mauritius and Florida. These lovely little birds feed on berries, fruits and flower parts in gardens and will also forage on the ground searching for ants. This inquisitive pair were seen near our hotel at Le Morne, Mauritius.
