An artist holds a palette while looking down from the roof of Davenport Hall at Yale University in New Haven, CT.
We had a few hours to walk around the Yale campus last weekend and I was amazed at the number of beautifully carved, whimsical "gargoyles" all on many of the grand old campus buildings.
I found several dozen gems during our visit, and now I really want to go back and hunt for more.
From what I've discovered through Google, most of these were created from 1917 through 1931 to look like classical European Gothic architecture, but many portray teachers and students of the time, or poke fun at the subjects taught in them (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yale_University).
