Smiling Through the Centuries

A statue of Saint Malo of Normandy seen at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The sandstone sculpture is estimated to have been made between 1250-1300 AD.

The placquard underneath reads (in part): "Holding a small model of a church or reliquary in his hand, this smiling young main is Saint Malo, a sixth-century saint venerated in northern France, where a town on the Brittany coast bears his name."

I know nothing of his history or significance, but I couldn't help but smile when I saw his face. Plus he's holding up really well for being over 700 years old! ;-)
