Winter is in the Air
Signs that winter is on its way, seen on a large stone in my back yard.
The narrow band of focus comes courtesy of "freelensing" -- detaching the lens from the camera body and tilting it slightly to get interesting effects. It's similar to what a tilt-shift lens (or a lensbaby) does, but with an element of added danger, and some light leakage around the edges.
I was inspired to try this by last week's photo challenge at Gizmodo.com, and I really liked the results! I'm not sure how often I'll do it though, since the risk of dropping the lens or getting junk onto the sensor is real...
