Psychedelic Tea Cups
A single 2 second exposure of the Mad Tea Party tea cup ride at Disneyland at night.
I strapped my little plastic Ultrapod to a railing to hold the camera steady. A fair amount of adjustment layer work was needed to equalize the levels in the RAW file. If/when I take this shot again I think I'll go the HDR route.
Processing notes: First, in Lightroom I cropped the image a bit, changed the white balance (started with Flourescent, then warmed it a bit), increased black levels, recovery, fill light and exposure, used an adjustment brush to lower the exposure on the lamps. Then in Photoshop I opened the image as a smart object and duplicated it a few times, boosting or lowering the exposure on each layer, then blended them using layer masks. Since the parts of the image where I really boosted the exposure were noisy I also created a layer with very heavy RAW noise reduction and painted that layer in selectively in the noisiest parts to preserve detail everywhere else.
