Etherial Lion
Detail from the base of another memorial I've never noticed before in the Boston Public Garden.
The dedication on the main part of the memorial reads "To commemorate the discovery that the inhaling of ether causes insensitivity to pain. First proved to the world at the Mass. General Hospital in Boston October A.D. MDCCCXLVI." Maybe the lions symbolize pain?
