Patrick Collins statue - Maiden of Ireland
Another statue from my photo walk around the Boston Public Gardens on Boxing Day.
This is a detail from the statue of Patrick Andrew Collins, Mayor of Boston from 1902-1905. The statue is in the Commonwealth Avenue Mall and is made up of a bust of Collins flanked by two full-sized female statues, who apparently represent the U.S. and Ireland. This is the face of the woman from Ireland. The smaller figurehead is on what appears to be an Irish harp.
According to the dedication on the front of the memorial, Collins was "A Talented Honest Generous Serviceable Man."
"Serviceable" -- I sure hope that word was considered more flattering then than it is today...
