Fulton's Folly

Challenge #126- Dad Inspired

I didn’t take this photo but in all other ways, it fits this week’s challenge. My dad, raised in Scranton, PA, spent summers every summer throughout his life at a cottage on a small lake in Pennsylvania. We found this photo among Dad’s personal papers after he was killed in a tragic drunk driving, hit and run accident in 1974. The photo is dated 1933. Dad and his lake friends are pictured on their float entry for the lake's annual summer regatta. The lake picnic and regatta, with a yearly theme, continue today as a long enjoyed tradition. Dad (not yet married) is the handsome young fellow in the water beside the float. The sign, “Built Uner-NRA” refers to the National Recover Act of 1933. When I look at this photo, I feel a profound sense of linkage over time to place, tradition, family… and especially Dad! Next year will mark our family’s 100th year in this place that Dad dearly loved and passed along to us. Thank you, Dad!
