Ethel Mars made very good candy in her kitchen. Her husband and son Frank sold them door to door. Her influence on Frank caused him to found the Mars Candy Company.
Later his two sons asked him to let them take over the company which he did. ""I was ready to move to Las Vegas to play golf for the rest of my life anyway" he said.
In a few years he got bored with that and decided to start a new candy company that would produce only the best chocolates and other confections. He named the company "Ethel M" to honor his mother.
Again he got bored with running Ethel M and turned it over to his sons who made it a part of the Mars Candy Company. This time he and his wife retired to Florida for the rest of their lives.
