GEISHA FRIENDS MODEL FOR T. ENAMI IN OLD JAPAN -- A Raw, Untransposed Stereo Proof Print from the T. ENAMI Studio (#9)
What a nice old 3-D studio view !
Yes, they are true Geisha (one is probably a Maiko), hired by Enami to model the country-girl look.
For those who like to free-view 3-D using the CROSS-EYED method, here are a dozen old and rare stereoview proof prints of OLD JAPAN direct from my scanner to you. No PhotoShop, No Touch-up, No Repairs!
All 12 views are are scanned directly from the original UNTRANSPOSED CONTACT PRINTS made from the original negatives over 100 years ago in T. ENAMI's Yokohama studio at No.9 Benten Street. Some of the negatives used were over 110 years old.
The back of each view has his original hand written notations in both Japanese and stilted English -- along negative reference numbers. They were never meant to be cut apart for making a stereoview. Instead, they were raw images to act as a "catalog reference" for finished production negatives or prints.
If you like to experiment with making ANAGLYPHS, some of these will surprise you for their composition, depth, and beauty. Others are plain and documentary.
You can also print them out and mount them "correctly" for parallel viewing.
In any case, please enjoy this rustic bit of Old Japan by T. ENAMI, the Meiji-era Master of the Stereoview.
