Okinawa Soba (Rob)
(2) HOLY SMOKES ~ !!! The ORIGINAL KILBURN NEGATIVE in the CMP !!!
This is a direct scan of the circa 1900 glass negative in the CMP. Values reversed for Flickr viewing as a positive image. The two sides are untransposed, and can be viewd in 3-D by the cross-eyed method.
The scan supplied by the CMP was over 20 MB, and I could almost see the hair on the Geisha's knuckles !....as well as the KILBURN VIEW COMPANY logo on the back of the view in the stereoscope, and many other interesting details of the kimonos and decor.
My permission to post is limited to this lower-resoultion 570 KB version : www.flickr.com/photos/okinawa-soba/14265081046/sizes/o/
You can immediately see that a LOT MORE is visible in the original than in the trimmed-down stereoview published by Kilburn View Co..
For die-hard researchers, this extra image content often holds interesting and important material not available to those who only have the old, trimmed-down stereoviews.
For those on a budget, the CMP can provide lower-resolution "Study Prints" for those who are more interested in "seeing, knowing, and learning" about the pictures, rather than wanting copies for publication or film.
Contact the CMP with any questions you have, and they will help you out.
By the way, HERE'S MY OWN CROP, which includes the Geisha's sandals all lined up at the edge of the matt -- something that was left out of the original stereoview : ♥ www.flickr.com/photos/okinawa-soba/14101565988/
