Thraxan species

These bee-flies were considered in the genus Anthrax till separated out by Yeates & Lambkin in 1998. Probably the easiest visual difference is that Thraxan have patches of white medially as seen clearly here. Species det. later! Wing length 13mm.

 

Both genera here in the Granite Belt are fond of hovering round and settling on vertical faces of rocks and I often catch them hovering beside me (the implications of which I will ignore).
