Historic town of Sukothai
Sukothai once was the capital of the Sukothai kingdom between the 13th and 14th century. It was the first large and expanded kingdom in Thai history. The city was surrounded by walls and water trenches with 2 x 1.6 km extent.Here you can see remains of the royal palace and more than 20 temples. Wat Mahathat is the largest of them. After it was restored in the sixties it became an UNESCO Heritage in 1991. The brick alls are part of the Sukothai style.
Sukothai war einst die Hauptstadt des Sukothai Königreiches zwischen dem 13. und 14. Jahrhundert. Es war das erste grossflächige Königreich in der Thais Geschichte. Die Stadt war umgeben von Wällen und Wassergräben mit einer Ausdehung von 2 x 1,6 km. Hier kann man Relikte des grossen Königpalastes und mehr als 20 Temple sehen von denen der grösste der Wat Mahathat im Zentrum ist. Nach der Restaurierung in den sechziger Jahren wurde Sukothai im Jahre 1991 zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe ernannt.
