Disaster Response

I'm working on the Haiti response and was prepared to go down to Haiti. A lot of the response is being coordinated from Miami, so I met up with a team here.

The transport channels are still crowded with essential relief supplies like medical, so I've held off heading down there and am working on a project here in Miami coordinating data exchange between NGOs, relief organizations, and government.

Miami is packed right now because of all the people here working on Haiti, and there's some football thing going on. The hotel I was staying in didn't have enough room, and I had to move to a new hotel. It's apparently one of the last rooms available in Miami, and one of the guys I'm working with had to use a favor to get it.

It also happens to be a suite on the beach. Best thing is it cost the same amount as the crappy hotel by the airport because they simply don't have less expensive rooms available and it's a government project.

The bad news is I'm spending all my day in meeting rooms hunched over a computer.
