31101 At Doncaster Works
August 1982, and 31101 was one of several withdrawn 31s (193, 194 and 264 leap to mind, to name but a few) in a similarly woebegone condition lying around within the works waiting for the chop. Then there was a spate of crashes involving dual braked members of the class, combined with an upturn in business. The upshot of all this was that within a few weeks of this photo, this loco, along with the aforementioned others were dragged into the repair shop, overhauled and fitted with dual brakes. 31101 now leads a fulfilled life in preservation in the Midlands.
