Entomopathogenic Fungi on Cicada
The two most common fungi to grow from the remains of dead Cicada both belong to the family Clavicipitaceae. Cordyceps bassiana is a white, snow like fungus that grows on the bodies of dead adult cicada above ground, and Isaria sinclairii is a stalked white cauliflower like fungus that sprouts from a dead Cicada grub in the soil. I have posted two photos next to each other here that show both fungi.
