Ever since 1851, the New York Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion,69th Infantry Regiment has been the parade's first march unit, and this year, they marked its 171st time leading the Annual New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, on a rainy March 17, 2022, in New York City. The regiment's officers start the day with a toast of Irish whiskey, and since 2016 they have used their very own "The Fighting 69th Whiskey" for the occasion.
