For no particular reason, I tend to travel mostly in winter. It’s a challenging time to photograph, but impossibly beautiful when the conditions align. More mountainous areas of the UK like Snowdonia National Park can be frustrating when you go weeks without a sunrise. During one such week, I stayed in the town of Llanberis and picnicked every night in front of the “Lone Tree.”

This setting had a special poetry to me no matter the weather — some of my favorite shots were on a cloudy night. But time is a useful ally, and I finally got the phenomenal sunrise I’d waited for.
