NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan
Operation Flying Tiger
A great day for the Air Corps teaming with the 207th Corps. While the Kabul Air Wing and Kandahar Air Wing were repositioning assets to support the fight down south, the Herat Air Detachment was conducting its first operational Air Assault. The 207th Corps received intelligence that four Iranians were holed up near Herat and that they were for waiting for follow on mission orders. The 207th Corps commander approved the mission and our two Mi-17s along with the 3/1 Kandak completed the mission to the village of Siavashan. The helicopters landed just 100 meters from the target area and the Kandak was able to quickly secure the village. Just 1 hr 25 min later the Kandak was exfiltrated, plus one individual, and returned to their home base. We're getting closer to a fully fledged air support fighting force!
