Three year old heiffer, trying to give birth to a stillborn calf. She seemed bent on killing any human that came within range. After protracted attempts by our vet to save her, she became very dangerous - and after a very narrow escape I and the vet decided that the only course of action was to shoot her. Fortunately the rifleman had steady nerves. He was standing between the gates when she saw him and charged. He dropped her fractions of a second before she hit the lightweight tubular steel gate. An extraordinary experience: Devons are normally very placid animals.
