Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women

I was leaving a local business when I encountered this mural supporting MMIW. I had heard about the movement in Western Canada and other places several years ago. I have to say I had no idea about the phenomenon at that time and still know very little about it today. Apparently a large number of Indigenous women and girls disappear and law enforcement seem to have little success in solving those cases. This seems to happen across the US and Canada. There are a number of factors including human trafficking, homelessness, drug abuse, spousal abuse and violence against women in general. Ukiah Valley was once the home of the Pomo and the Pomo people continue to populate the are in Lake and Mendocino County. The red painted text disappears somewhat against the brightly painted background. I have no idea if MMIW or any affiliated organization has a presence in this building. 800 N. State St., Ukiah, California.
