Bullet riddled abandoned school bus

The informational sign says that this bus’ route was “The Mojave Road”. I had never heard of the Mojave Road but the museum here tells me that it was originally an indigenous trade route from the Colorado River to the Mojave River near Los Angeles. As pioneer settlers began moving westward it turned into a wagon road complete with periodic military forts to guard water sources where wagons would stop. While this bus would not have traversed the entire route it would have served the east Mojave area which has several small communities just west of the Colorado River. The museum describes it as a 40’s era bus. It was once abandoned along the Mojave Road which people felt gave them license to shoot it full of holes.
