Defiance

A few weeks ago now, myself and a good friend of mine visited Brighton, Portslade and Shoreham for a day of long exposure photography. The conditions were fantastic, in that there was: 100% cloud pretty much all day, the tides were pretty much spot on for the location, the sea was as choppy as anything. BUT, my god the sea spray was unbelievable we were having to wipe both lenses and filters after every single shot and to add insult to injury our tripods were shaking from the 30mph gusts.

Having spent a good few hours around Portslade and Shoreham harbour, we admitted defeat and were going to retire to a nearby cafe for a well deserved beer when we went to the other side of Shoreham harbour and saw that the tide was so low that we could actually stand on this sea defence and couldn't resist a go at this. Portslade and Shoreham is a location that I've visited MANY times, but the weather has always been either clear blue skies or similar to the conditions we faced that day, but thankfully for this shot the breaker actually shielded the sea spray and the harbour wall behind us shielded the wind.

Anyway, this is a location that I will be visiting again and I'm pleased to say that on one of those occasions will be with Doug Chinnery as him and I are going to be running a long exposure workshop together there on 12th November. If you're interested then please contact either Doug or myself for more details. Brighton, Portslade and Shoreham have a lot to offer for long exposure photography, so I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the location... fingers crossed for the weather ;-)
