Lined up and pointing out to sea

The 'sea' in this instance is Lough Neagh, the United Kingdom's largest lake. But when I saw the powerful waves breaking against the shore - just a few metres from this spot - I could have believed that it really was the sea.

These birds were seen at Antrim Marina, almost two kilometres away from Antrim town on foot, and where the Six Mile Water river flows into the Lough. If any of my visitors who are also twitchers could kindly identify the types of feathered creatures visible here, I'd appreciate it.

I had never seen Lough Neagh from ground level before and to do so was an ambition for this trip. And it's a visit I was very pleased to accomplish, albeit briefly; a case of once seen, never forgotten. I chose Antrim for its ease of rail access, which probably comes as no surprise.

Many thanks to BITH* for identifying the birds as Black-headed Gulls, Mallards and a solitary juvenile Mute Swan.
