Class 50 locomotive No. 50035 Ark Royal passes Reading station with the 14:23 Paddington - Plymouth service on Thursday 16th August 1979. This was a summer-only scheduled relief service that ran in front of the 14:30 Paddington - Paignton; my notes made at the time clearly say "passing Reading" so I'm pretty sure the train did not stop here.
