Finding a path

A record shot of Class 52 diesel-hydraulic locomotive No. D1001 WESTERN PATHFINDER at Bristol Temple Meads on Sunday 30th May 1976, which coincidentally was my seventeenth birthday. The Class 50, for what it's worth, could have been any one of 50002/16/17/20/24/26/32/39. The GPO office building looming up behind the "Western" was later abandoned, and has been a derelict shell for many years awaiting redevelopment, while the overhead mailbag conveyor system, spanning the tracks behind the "50", has recently been dismantled. Also, the track layout has been remodelled to allow the platform face on the left to be brought back into normal use (possibly No. 15?) and now GWR HSTs frequently load and unload their passengers here.
