a procession in New Delhii
(New Delhi in the early 1980s) (scan of an old print of a slide)
It is not that clear, but I thought it interesting : in Pahar Ganj, not far from New Delhi railway station, a small procession at night with some young actors, probably Radha and Krishna and other children disguised into gods... ?) - the street is anyway always very lifely and illuminated, but this procession was preceeded by 4 or 6 guys transporting heavy kerozene lamps on their shoulders ; there was also, like usual, a brass band, sounding (like often) incredibly discordant, lovely and comic for a brief moment and of course, destined to attract attention from everyone (one could even imagine that some mischievous musicians tried to be as much out of tune as possible, maybe to have fun together ? :))
This was taken such a long time ago, I am positive about the place where it happened, but not about the purpose of this particular procession ; I also saw various wedding processions passing through this busy street over the years, but this was something else, probably paid for by a rich trader or by a group of local shops.
