Member of the first Aid nursing Yeomanry oiling her car
A young woman in a coat or overall and with her hair hidden by a scarf, is refilling oil in her car engine. The car was made by D. Napier and son, the leading British manufacturer before the war. In 1905, Napier had set the land speed record of 104.6 mph.
When this photograph was taken (probably by John Warwick Brooke), it was still unusual to see the generally middleclass women of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY) doing simple jobs like this.
