Navarasam
A Kathakali artist can emote an entire story through his face, hand gestures and footwork. Facial expressions are the most important among them. There are total nine main facial expressions called 'Navarasas' that are used to convey various emotions. The nine emotions are Sringara (Love), Karunam (pity), Veeram (Heroism), Raudram (Anger), Bhayanakam (Fear), Bibhatsam (Disgust), Hasyam (Humour), Adbhutham (Wonder) and Santam (Tranquility).
