pre-painting

we are using chalkboard paint to make this wall into a writable / washable surface. the color, when he moved it, was cranberry, as you can see. it is *very* poorly done; I sanded off as many drips as I could, but many remain. I also patched some holes, as you can see.

another crazy thing about this house is that it is full of solid oak-- the floors, the trim, the paneling, and the cabinets. it's beautiful. it's also under several coats of THICK white paint. that cabinet mugging these pictures? solid oak. we are in the process of stripping that paint, but I am lazy and eager to have my chalkboard, and so I only stripped the stuff immediately surrounding the wall to be painted.

also, the jacket in the chair makes the room look a lot messier than it actually is.
