Cathedral Square
Catedral Square of Barcelona is located in front of Barcelona Cathedral, in the Ciutat Vella district, in the heart of the historic centre of Barcelona.
Although it may seem impossible, this square was created in the middle of the 20th century, just after the end of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Originally, the space occupied by Catedral Square of Barcelona was full of buildings.
The creation of this square took place between 1941 and 1958. During these years, the Barcelona City Council expropriated several buildings and demolished them. In this way, Barcelona Cathedral had an open space in front of it.
