Jean-Francois Rauzier is a French photographer best known for his digitally altered depictions of cities and places such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Versailles Palace, and Abu Dhabi, among others.
Rauzier refers to his works as “hyperphotos,” which is meant to describe the quality of a supernaturally detailed image in where multiple perspectives of a scene are juxtaposed—his images are often reminiscent of the surreal drawings of M.C. Escher in the stark attention to fine detail.
Born on April 24, 1952 in Saint-Adresse, France, he studied at the Louis Lumière College and later worked as a commercial photographer while pursuing his own career. Rauzier began making hyperphotos in 2002 with the advent of digital correction tools. Today, his works are in the collections of the city of Lille, the city of Paris, the Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and the Newseum in Washington, D.C., among others. The artist lives and works in Paris, France.
