Frosty Dawn

I have shot this gate and fence a number of times, finding the way it snakes over the ups and downs of the uneven ground makes a great lead in feature. I processed this image with the aim of trying to catch the hard, bright, freezing conditions, hence went for a fairly contrasty finish, and enhanced the cool blues and greens of the frozen fields. I had to shoot using a high ISO and relatively low f-stop, hence the processing reduced background quality a bit, but the trade off with getting the right atmosphere and "feel" was worth it.

I have noticed that sometimes when the rising sun creates those warm dawn colours, clouds not actually near the sun can pick up these colours, as in this case. The sun is actually rising 90 degrees to the right of the direction the camera is pointing, hence the contrasting warm colours in the clouds are more subtle than bright.
