The Hidden Land II
Another tonemapped RAW image from 2013. This technique, plus a few basic tweaks in Lightroom, produced a shot with much more detail in both the shadows and highlights. In my eyes, this produced a much more expressive result, whilst still retaining the key aspects of the SOOC image.
Every so often a shot comes along that seems (at least to me) to have a certain something that takes it almost beyond the realm of the normal world - sort of like a window into somewhere that is still clearly a part of nature's realm, but at the same time seems to have more than a little magic about it, as though you are seeing into into an "enhanced" reality of magic and wonder.
The composition of this shot certainly suggested this to me; the lovely pale pink sunbeams against the blue-green trees are wondefully etheral and fine, like a magical mist. Framing the image through the dark leaves above and the dark ground below gave a stong impression of looking out of a dimly lit place into another land.
Hence the title, really. One of my favourite shots ever, I really liked just about everything about this shot - but mostly the lovely, delicate, rare impression of looking into a special, magical realm. I look at this, and all the time and commitment waiting and hoping for something special, something that just begs to be photographed, seems easily worthwhile.
