Clan Line magnificence
The remoteness of steam on the Brighton Mainline; the improbability we'd see a Bullied and the extreme improbability of it being Clan Line, meant that I had to pop out yesterday morning and evening to snap Dad/Granddad's loco hauling a steam excursion to Bath/Bristol (as far as Salisbury anyway) ... the weather was still gloomy and raining before 8am but we had an overhead full moon at 10:40pm... making use of my 1.8 'nifty fifty' at f/2.2 to get some light ... gave a brighter result than Monday evening's attempt with Braunton in the rain. Two Bulleids at speed passing through Wiveslfield in the evening was something special. Whilst Braunton was accelerating from a stop at Burgess Hill, so probably at about 40mph. There was no hindering Clan Line on Saturday as she emerged from the darkness, the middle-C whistle breaking the silence as it emerged into the station lights... powering through, at at least 60mph would be my guess.... some of the unaware bystanders were quite awed by the spectacle... something I suspect they'll remember for some time.
Images taken with camera quite wide open.. ISO pushed to between 16000 and 32600 but AI noise cancelling in photoshop is superb if not overused. The night image of Clan Line was only lightly AI-Noise reduced, so I may give it another go at some point. It'll do for now.
