Dawn at Mormon Row in Grand Teton National Park
Details best viewed in Original Size.
The Teton Mountains run north-south on the western side of the park so they receive direct sunlight during the early to mid-morning. This image was captured from Mormon Row (a short gravel side road from Antelope Flats Road) during the morning shortly after the first rays of the rising sun illuminated the old barn. The evening before this image was captured a cold front had gone through bringing absolutely, perfectly clear air making it seem as if one could just reach and touch the mountains.
The area was first settled by a group of Mormon families during the 1800s and although the original settlers are now gone, their old barns continue to inspire countless number of photographers. Some of the structures there are private property so photographs should be limited to only those belonging to the Park Service.
