ghosts of nostalgia
should the past return as the present will we recognize it for what it is? nostalgia is a powerful tool that can unite or divide and lately it has been used mostly to divide. to certain segments of our population there is this mythical america that was of one people and one culture but reality is far from it. just this small group of immigrants show us america has always been of all people of all cultures and all skill levels. we didn't get the best people from europe or anywhere else nor do we need to. america is the place where people come and invent the best version of themselves. we are not a static page in a history book. we are the restless spirit, the perpetual machine that is forever reinventing and improving. we are of all people and of all cultures. and that's what gives us the potential to be the best of all worlds. why look back and long for a past that never was when we can create whatever paradise we choose? america is the perfect dream maker. all we need is the audacity to dream and dream differently. goodbye nostalgia. you belong to the ghosts. hello future! here we come!
