Senator Nigel Scullion
Indigenous Student Support Programme, Sydney, 05/04/2017
It was a pleasure to meet with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, academic leaders and distinguished veterans this morning, all involved in the Badanami Indigenous Education Centre at University of Western Sydney Bankstown campus, with my colleague, Senator for New South Wales Marise Payne.
There I announced the $67.5 million through Indigenous Student Support Programme (ISSP) that is supporting Indigenous students at 40 universities across Australia in 2017.
This investment is part of a $253 million four-year investment to support Australia's 16,000 Indigenous students.
Developed with universities, the ISSP will facilitate greater numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates.
The ISSP allows the flexibility necessary to ensure students are provided with support that may needed to complete their tertiary education.
Better yet, stronger levels of Indigenous governance are required in the implementation of the ISSP in each university which will have immeasurable positive broader impacts on university cultures and the experience of all students. 05/04/2017
