2013 107
17 April 2013. Regent Sounds Studio, 4 Denmark Street, London, England, UK. The Rolling Stones recorded their debut album here over the course of five days in January and February 1964. Imaginatively called 'The Rolling Stones', it was produced by then-managers Andrew Loog Oldham and Eric Easton and released by Decca Records in the UK on 16 April 1964.
The Rolling Stones weren’t the only band to make use of Regent Sounds Studio. Through the 60s and 70s it played host to many other bands and artists including The Who, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, Mott the Hoople, Donovan and Black Sabbath – who recorded their hugely successful song and album Paranoid at the studio.
Despite the name over the door, the place is now called Regent Sounds and is an independent guitar shop specialising in Fender and Gretsch instruments. The staff are all musicians and most helpful. I got my Fender Precision Bass here.
