A place of mystery (Explore)
I have to say that being at the top of this Iron Age Hill Fort at dawn with the hill fog all around, was something of a spiritual experience. I could hear no traffic, just the hoot of a barn owl now and again, a few sheep in the pasture far below and my own breathing. In these conditions there is a real "atmosphere".
It seemed a desolate spot - it must have been quite a harsh place to live in winter. I would certainly not want to have been either defending or attacking it!
After a about 20 minutes of frantically trying to get some photos out of this location before the mist took over, I just stopped and listened; and listened; and listened. It is not often that we get to hear "almost nothing". But it's funny - in those few moments when you do, you can "see" so much.
