Fancy Light Fixture
Okay, the deal with this is, if I wanted to take pictures, I had to be in them... so I tried to get around this in a variety of creative ways. Forgive the thumbs and feet.
Looking up at a light fixture. There are about four or five different design styles in this theatre... maybe more.
The Keith Albee Theatre was built in 1927-1928 and designed by famed theatre architect, Thomas W. Lamb. It has several sister theatres across the country. The supervising architect was Wilbur A. Meanor. It is on the National Register as part of the downtown historic district.
The Keith Albee is an atmospheric theatre, meaning it's ceiling can imitate the sky and gives the illusion of being outdoors. It's truly a wonderful effect. The theatre is purely magnificent, in good repair, and is the process of full restoration. It was part of the Orpheum circuit.
If you ever have the chance to visit this masterpiece, I highly suggest you do so. As flamboyant as the exterior is, it doesn't give you an inkling of the fabulousness that hides quietly within.
My parents are awesome and finagled us a private tour of the theatre, basically anywhere I wanted to go.
However, when I got there, they told me I couldn't take pictures of the building unless I was in them, because they had a problem with someone who took pictures and sold them on the internet, and didn't give any money to the theatre... so now nobody is allowed to take pictures without a contract, unless they are in the pictures.
This is weird, because when my mom went to see the show, she asked if she could take pictures of the theatre, and they told her it was fine. So, out of respect, if I decide to post those pictures she took, they will be at very tiny resolution so they may not be sold.
