YYB967N Blagdon Lioness

Blagdon Lioness Coaches Ltd is a family company formed to take over the long established business of O G A Lyons of Blagdon in January 1968. Two bus services were operated - a Wednesday only market day service to Wells , and a once weekly service to Bristol via Butcombe. The company director , Terry Lyons is operating the ticket machine , on a pay on exit basis , at the wheel of YYB967N , a Bedford YRQ / Plaxton Panorama Elite Express III C45F new in September 1974 , in Wells bus station on the Tuesday service. The purchase of this coach caused quite a stir , especially as it was too big to be used on the Bristol service . Mr Lyons was happy for it to do very little mileage in the first five years in order to buy a new coach for half price. It remained with the company until February 1988 when it was sold to Morgan , Lampeter. Another very similar coach , YVJ500K , was also purchased from Yeomans of Canon Pyon in April 1977.

The Tuesday only service to Wells was operated until September 1997 when it passed to ABus as 683.

The company is still trading but the last coach , a Bova bought new in 2003 , was sold in January 2013 and a number of horse drawn vehicles and funeral carriages now form the basis of the business. The PSV operators licence was surrendered in April 2016.
