WYD620M Crown Tours , Frome

In 1972 Ford introduced new versions of their bus/ coach chassis , the R1014 and R1114 , for 10 and 11 metre vehicles respectively. In spite of the front engine these were suitable for new bus grant . W Higson & Co Ltd., trading as Crown Tours of Frome purchased this Ford R1014 / Willowbrook Expressway C45F in May 1974. I am not sure what stage licences they had at that time other than the Saturdays only Dilton Marsh to Frome service.

Crown Tours commenced operation of the Frome - Shepton Mallet bus service in June 1976 and WYD620M is seen loading in Shepton Mallet. In July 1982 the business was taken over by C H Field Ltd of Paulton , and WYD620M passed to Fields who continued to trade as Crown Tours in Frome as well as Ashleigh Coaches in Paulton. It had a very short life and was withdrawn by Fields about a year later and stripped for spares.
