----------
The Swann Memorial Fountain
also known as "the Fountain of the Three Rivers"
artist: Alexander Stirling Calder (1924)
architect: Wilson Eyre
The fountain sculpture, located in the center of Logan Circle, is a memorial to Dr. Wilson Cary Swann, founder of the Philadelphia Fountain Society. Calder, in the tradition of classic “river god” sculptures, crafted three allegorical figures of Native Americans to symbolize the Delaware, the Schuylkill, and the Wissahickon.
Wissahickon Creek - young girl leaning against an agitated swan
Schuylkill River - mature woman holding the swan's neck
Delaware River - man reaching above his head with a pike beside him
