Tongariki moai, Easter Island
Demolished in 1960 by the tremendous force of a Pacific tsunami generated by the earthquake in Valdivia, southern Chile, Tongariki was restored by Chilean archeologist Claudio Cristino and Sergio Rapu, with the help of Japanese archeologists and the Rapa Nui people so it once again supports 15 moai. There is evidence that through the years more than thirty statues stood on the ahu ( not all at once).
