Soon I will fly…

The babies Loons are now two month old. They dive well, but do not catch fish yet. They are starting to lose the baby plumage and practice stretching their wings

The fledgling phase lasts 2 to 3 months, during which the young chicks accompany their parents around the territory, sometimes riding on the back of one parent. The chicks are able to dive short distances at two days old, and are able to fly at two to three months. Once they are able to fly, the young loons can become independent of their parents.

The Great Northern Loon, Great Northern Diver, or Common Loon (Gavia immer), is a large member of the loon, or diver, family of birds. The species is known as a Common Loon in North America and the Great Northern Diver in Eurasia

Breeding adults have a black head, white underparts, and a checkered black-and-white mantle. Male and female loons have identical plumage. Non-breeding plumage is brownish, with the chin and foreneck white. The bill is black-blue and held horizontally. The bill colour and angle distinguish this species from the similar Yellow-billed Loon.
